The anxiety or compulsion to restrict doesn't go. We know that the
neural underpinnings remain even in remission (which is why there is
really no such thing as "recovery" in a cure sense). The
neurotransmitters that misfire within the amygdala continue to do their
thing after you restore your weight, but they are quieter. And that
means you don't feel the same intensity of anxiety as you do when you
are in a flare of the condition, but it can still be there in the
background.
